Senior Chemist

Responsibilities

 

General Summary:

Provides support to the customers and works with the resources at the company to resolve issues that may occur.  Promotes our company to the industry and to our customers. 

Assists in the development of new products and processes through research processes using project management and laboratory skills. 

Provides support internally and externally through all necessary and appropriate communication methods including travel in a technical support role as necessary.

Demonstrates a high degree of creativity, foresight, and mature judgment in anticipating and solving unprecedented scientific complexities, determining program objectives and requirements, organizing programs and developing standards for diverse scientific activities.

Oversees the daily work activities of staff personnel, including scheduling and reviewing work and training employees.

 

Job Functions & Responsibilities

  • Proposes changes to products and/or services that result in cost reductions and increased sales.
  • Visits customers to gather information, diagnose product problems, and provide technical solutions.
  • Responds to customer inquiries in a timely manner for information and complaints.
  • Represents Company at Trade shows.
  • Organizes and implements testing of products for known or suspected problems.
  • Participates in scale up and Design Review sessions as necessary.
  • Meets with suppliers and maintains an intellectual interest in new materials relevant to value drivers in our markets.
  • Develop personal skills and product knowledge to more effectively carry out assigned responsibilities.
  • Monitors quality issues from input by sales/service, customers, and other external or internal sources.
  • Provide technical support needed to assist the Commercial Group including customer visits when required. This includes providing samples, reports and current information as necessary.
  • Regularly report and review with management the status of the tasks and projects within areas of responsibility.
    • Ensure commercial/technical alignment towards company strategies and growth objectives.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports detailing technical problems to initiate necessary corrective product modifications and/or recommended manufacturing process changes.
  • Assist in maintaining ISO/TS 16949:2002 certification as required.
  • Makes authoritative decisions and recommendations having an important impact on extensive scientific activities of the Company.
  • Assist the organization to create a safe and healthy working environment by working safely, using equipment provided and following instructions given for health and safety purposes and immediately reporting any unsafe working practices or hazardous working conditions.
  • Product Support specific responsibilities:
    • Toll Customer support
    • First Time Pass evaluations
      • Review, data collection, change recommendations
    • Purchased Ident Process – Initiate purchased idents when requested in tandem with EH&S.
    • Backup person for Product Manager.
      • Ident and Lab Ident request generation

 

Requirements

 

Qualification, knowledge and experience

  • 4-year Bachelor Degree in related discipline (Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials or Polymer Science, etc) 
  • 5 yrs related experience
