Category Manager
Responsibilities
ELANTAS North America, Inc. is seeking a Category Manager - Indirect/CAPEX to be a first-level manager responsible for leading a team that delivers strategic category insights and proposals. This role develops and executes sourcing strategies, manages supplier relationships, and drives category performance to meet business goals.
This role is based on-site in St. Louis, MO, and requires travel to other US facilities.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage a team that analyzes marketing and customer data to generate actionable category insights.
- Develop and implement strategic sourcing plans for assigned product categories.
- Research new product options to drive sales and meet performance targets.
- Oversee category and brand performance assessments, including pricing strategies and promotional effectiveness.
- Monitor competitor pricing and market conditions to adjust strategies accordingly.
- Establish and manage special vendor arrangements to support product promotions and supply continuity.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including R&D, manufacturing, and finance.
- Ensure department goals and project milestones are met within approved budgets.
- Utilize SAP ERP and MRP systems for procurement planning and execution.
- Report to the Director of Procurement and support broader supply chain initiatives.
Requirements
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, Chemistry, or related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in category management, strategic sourcing, or procurement.
- 1–3 years of supervisory experience required
- Strong negotiation, analytical, and leadership skills.
- Experience in manufacturing or specialty chemicals preferred.
- Knowledge of international trade regulations and transportation documentation.
- Proficiency in SAP or similar ERP systems.
- Extensive knowledge of procurement functions and departmental processes.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to develop and implement long-term sourcing and category strategies aligned with business objectives.
- Proven experience managing a team, delegating responsibilities, and overseeing performance to meet departmental goals and budgets.
- Skilled in negotiating contracts, establishing vendor partnerships, and securing favorable terms to enhance product promotions and supply continuity.

Proficient in analyzing customer data, market trends, and competitor pricing to inform category decisions and adjust strategies.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively across departments including R&D, manufacturing, finance, and marketing.

Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery within budget constraints.

Capable of identifying issues, evaluating options, and implementing effective solutions using data-driven insights.

Experience in monitoring and assessing category/brand performance and making recommendations based on findings.
