Accountant
Responsibilities
The Accountant is responsible for managing the organization’s cost accounting function and providing accurate, timely financial cost information to support management decision‑making. This role performs detailed cost analysis, evaluates costs, identifies operational risks and improvement opportunities, and supports inventory valuation and controls. Responsibility includes 3 manufacturing locations. The position also serves as backup support for Accounts Payable and Assistant Controller responsibilities.
Cost Accounting & Inventory Management
- Oversee all aspects of inventory valuation, costing, and reconciliation.
- Coordinate and support physical inventory counts and related audit activities.
- Develop and maintain cost standards for materials and labor.
- Evaluate plant capacity, activity rates, and absorption rates for fixed and variable costs.
- Perform month‑end cost accounting close, including preparation of inventory‑related journal entries.
- Prepare, review, and analyze inventory variance reports; investigate and resolve discrepancies.
- Review inventory records monthly to identify inconsistencies and recommend corrective actions.
Financial Analysis & Reporting
- Perform cost accounting, budgeting, and financial analysis to support operational and strategic decisions.
- Provide analytical support to Operations and Sales/Marketing, including product profitability analysis and SKU rationalization.
- Coordinate long‑range planning activities.
- Prepare summarized financial cost information for management review.
- Support month-end closing requirements.
- Support tax requirements.
Systems, Processes & Controls
- Establish and improve processes governing inventory movement, usage, and control.
- Support system and process changes, including SAP‑related initiatives.
- Monitor financial systems to identify and recommend procedural and processing improvements.
- Interpret, apply, and maintain accounting policies and procedures; recommend changes as appropriate.
Collaboration & Special Projects
- Coordinate and communicate with the Finance Department on budgets, variance analysis, cost accounting, and financial reporting issues.
- Conduct special projects as assigned by management, providing timely conclusions and recommendations.
Backup & Cross‑Functional Support
- Provide backup support for Accounts Payable invoice entry.
- Provide backup support to the Assistant Controller, including monthly financial consolidation entries.
Requirements
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in business with an emphasis in Accounting or Finance.
- Minimum of two years of general accounting experience; cost accounting and/or manufacturing experience preferred.
Skills & Competencies
- Advanced Excel skills and comfort working with large data sets.
- SAP experience preferred
- Strong analytical, presentation, and communication skills.
- Ability to adapt quickly to evolving systems, processes, and procedures.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.
- Hands‑on, proactive mindset with a willingness to collaborate across all levels of the organization.
