Quality Technician Lead
Responsibilities
This is a 2nd shift position - hours are Monday-Thursday, 2pm to 12am.
The Lead Quality Technician supports their supervisor by coordinating daily laboratory activities and performing inspections and analytical testing on raw materials, in-process batches, and finished goods. This role helps prioritize testing and provides first level troubleshooting for product-related issues. It also must communicate and interact daily with the operations and technical employees to complete all tasks successfully. A requirement for this role is the ability to work with minimum supervision or without supervision.
Quality Control Operations
- Perform routine testing of raw materials to support purchase decisions and to help reduce quality variability.
- Perform routine testing of in-process batches and finished goods and recommend adjustments according to the company quality standards.
- Prioritize daily testing work based on production needs, sample volume, customer needs, and testing requirements.
- Ensure accurate, timely, and complete documentation in SAP and any other software needed.
- Fast and accurate decision making on product dispositions using root cause analysis techniques when necessary. Communicate reasoning and concerns to the Quality Team Lead regarding those decisions.
- Comply with retain samples management.
Quality Supervisor Support
- Serve as the primary resource for Quality Technicians regarding inspections, adjustments, and troubleshooting issues.
- Conduct basic training for new employees and check effectiveness.
- Support the resolution of internal and external nonconformances.
- Assist with equipment calibrations and verifications.
- Provide feedback to the Quality Supervisor on performance, training gaps, and competencies.
General
- Complete any additional tasks or responsibilities assigned by the company or direct supervisor.
- Follow and adhere to all safety standards and regulations.
- Maintain a clean and tidy workspace.
Requirements
Education and Experience

- 2-year associate’s degree or 4-year bachelor’s degree in a science-related field preferred.
- Applicants with extensive ink/coatings experience or chemical manufacturing laboratory experience will be considered.
Skills and competencies
- Ability to distinguish color nuances required for all facilities except in NJ.

- Previous experience in Color Theory/Matching preferred for all facilities except in NJ.
- Ability to maintain records, generate written reports, and communicate results clearly.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office required.
- SAP experience preferred.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Able to demonstrate leadership skills without formal supervisory responsibilities.
- Ability to work independently, with no direct supervision.
