Manager - Warehouse & Logistics

Responsibilities

 

The Warehouse & Logistics Manager is responsible for overseeing all warehouse and logistics operations of the chemical storage facility. This role ensures safety compliance, on-time shipments, accurate inventory, effective employee management, and strong cross-departmental communication. The manager also plays a key role in coaching, mentoring, and developing team members to build skills, strengthen performance, and support career growth. Accountable to both internal and external customers, the Warehouse & Logistics Manager leverages expertise, resources, and leadership skills to drive customer satisfaction through clear communication and reliable, on-time delivery.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities: 

  • Create and maintain safety awareness through training, meetings, identifying and correcting hazards, and creating an engaged workforce focused on safety at all levels.
  • Responsible for the team’s compliance and participate in all safety and environmental programs.
  • Promote teamwork, communication, and cross-training to ensure operational flexibility.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a warehouse employee, setting clear expectations and fostering high performance.
  • Track and report on KPIs to senior management including on-time delivery, inventory accuracy, warehouse productivity, safety performance, and freight expenditure. Drive improvements through Lean or Six Sigma initiatives.
  • Perform, oversee and direct the receiving process for raw materials and non-raw materials, ensuring proper documentation and accuracy. Address discrepancies through training and performance management
  • Manage and coordinate the preparation and assembly of finished goods shipments to customers, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and on-time delivery.
  • Ensure shipping/receiving transactions in SAP (S/4HANA) are real-time and accurate, track inventory, shipments, customer orders and ensuring data integrity.
  • Initiate and participate in the continuous improvement process by suggesting efficiencies and participating in the improvement process.
  • Create documents, bills-of-lading, airway bills, commercial invoices, NAFTA and other export declarations accurately. Handle all freight claims due to damage or service failures that require documentation and follow-up to minimize negative impact to the organization.
  • Ensure full compliance with OSHA, DOT, EPA, and other applicable chemical handling and transportation regulations, including proper hazmat labeling, storage, and shipment.
  • Work directly with 3PL providers and manage the Remote warehouse team to align processes and performance.
  • Investigate safety and environmental incidents, complete reports, and implement appropriate corrective and preventive actions.
  • Audit, create, and revise work instructions and SOPs to support compliance, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate with carriers and freight forwarders to optimize transportation costs, transit times, and service levels depending on the shipment.

Requirements

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree – preferably in logistics or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 5-7 years’ experience of leadership or management in a Chemical Manufacturing warehouse or distribution center required
  • ERP experience in Warehouse and Logistics modules, SAP(s4HANA) strongly preferred
  • Proven experience with exports, DOT / IATA / IMDG regulations for hazardous materials.
  • Hands-on experience with HAZMAT shipping requirements; DOT/HAZMAT/IATA certifications preferred.
  • Solid understanding of freight rates, load procedures, and weight limitations
  • Ability to receive and provide instructions in a positive manner
  • Six Sigma belt achievement and/or extensive Lean manufacturing experience are desired.
  • Proven computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Suite for business communication and financial reporting analysis.
  • Excellent oral, written, mathematical, and analytical skills.
